Over 12 lakh people in Jammu eligible to vote on Oct 1

Jammu, Sep 26 (UNI) Eleven Assembly constituencies of Jammu district are all set to go to the hustings with over 12 lakh voters eligible to exercise their franchise there in the third and final phase of J&K Assembly polls on October 1. during the third and final phase of General Elections to the Legislative Assembly.
The Assembly constituencies comprising the district are Bishnah (SC), Suchetgarh (SC), R.S. Pura-Jammu South, Bahu, Jammu East, Nagrota, Jammu West, Jammu North, Marh (SC), Akhnoor (SC) and Chhamb.
Of the 12,00,977 voters; 6,19,066 are male, 5,81,887 female and 24 third gender voters.
The spokesperson said for smooth and hassle-free facilitation of voters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has established 1,494 polling stations across the district. While 609 of them are in urban areas, 885 cover rural segments.
To foster maximum voter participation and facilitate voters, dedicated polling stations have been set up across district for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Polling booths managed by women are called Pink Polling Stations. Besides there are polling stations supervised by youths.
R.S. Pura-Jammu South constituency has highest number of 1,30,107 registered voters - 67,322 males, 62,782 females and 3 transgender voters.
The constituency also houses 149 polling stations - 98 urban and 51 rural - for smooth and hassle free voting experience of all registered voters.
All arrangements are being put in place for a smooth and peaceful polling in the district, the spokesperson added.
Currently, a number of voter awareness programmes are underway in various parts of the district to generate interest among the electorate regarding importance of exercising the franchise and to maximise the voter turnout, he said. UNI VBH SSP
